Lucia Micarelli has carved a unique path in the world of music, captivating audiences with her exceptional talent and unbridled passion. Drawing inspiration from classical masterpieces, jazz improvisation, and diverse global traditions, Micarelli transcends musical boundaries, weaving a tapestry that is both timeless and contemporary.
At the age of eleven, Lucia was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School of Music's Pre-College Division. Under the guidance of renowned violin pedagogue Dorothy DeLay, as well as Itzhak Perlman, Cho-Liang Lin, and Won-Bin Yim, she honed her skills and quickly rose to prominence. Within a year, she won the Pre-College Concerto Competition and settled into a routine that combined instruction with performances at renowned venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, and other international stages. Lucia spent her summers at the Aspen Music Festival, where she performed regularly with the orchestra and won the Violin Concerto Competition in 2000, leading to a performance of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Festival Orchestra.
At seventeen, Lucia left Juilliard to study with celebrated international violinist Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music. During this period, her interest in non-classical music began to grow. She began moonlighting with local jazz and rock bands in New York clubs, and soon after, she embarked on a tour as a featured violinist and concertmaster with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In addition, she’s been a featured soloist in three of Josh Groban’s global tours, was featured on tour with Barbra Streisand, toured extensively with Chris Botti and was featured in his “Live From Boston” PBS special. She also released two solo studio albums, Music From A Farther Room and Interlude. In 2009, she ventured into acting, landing the starring role of "Annie" in HBO's critically acclaimed series Treme, created by David Simon and Eric Overmeyer. The series spanned four seasons and received a Peabody Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. It was during her time in New Orleans filming Treme that Lucia discovered her singing voice and a love for storytelling through song.
While Lucia's creative journey is marked by her commitment to growth and exploration, her unwavering dedication to classical music endures, and she continues to share her love for the genre with audiences worldwide. She has performed as a soloist with the Lansing Symphony under Maestro Timothy Muffit, the Long Beach Symphony under Maestro Eckart Preu, the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra under Maestro Edwin Outwater, the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey, and has graced some of the most prestigious stages in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall, Sydney Opera House, Boston Symphony Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Greek Theater, Grand Ole Opry, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and Madison Square Garden.
In 2018, Lucia mesmerized audiences with her first PBS concert special, which aired nationwide and resulted in the release of the live album "An Evening with Lucia Micarelli." In 2020, she joined the Hallmark family, starring in "The Christmas Bow" alongside Michael Rady. Most recently, Lucia has embraced composing, adding yet another creative pursuit to her repertoire. She is currently scoring a documentary for HBO, further showcasing her multifaceted abilities.
Most recently, Micarelli collaborated with acclaimed guitarist Leo Amuedo to record the album Saudade, the first album released by the duo. Released in September 2023, Suadade showcases the pairs divers influences moving from jazz, to classical, to traditional fiddle music, Americana, and Brazilian music.
While Lucia Micarelli’s impressive accomplishments have rightfully garnered recognition, it is her profound ability to forge deep connections with audiences that truly sets her apart. With her dedication to her craft and relentless pursuit of creative growth, Lucia’s artistry resonates with authenticity and emotional depth, whether she is performing in esteemed concert halls, collaborating with renowned musicians, or captivating viewers on screen.
