artist info

World-renowned jazz bassist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller has been a considerable force in the music industry for the past 40 years. He is the recipient of numerous Grammy and international achievement awards including the 2013 Edison Award For Lifetime Achievement in Jazz; the 2010 Victoire du Jazz cultural award and the 2019 recipient of the Principality of Monaco’s Cultural Merit of Distinction, awarded by the Prince and Princess of Monaco.

Miller is widely recognized for his long resume of collaborations with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, George Benson, Lalah Hathaway, and David Sanborn to name a few. Miller’s iconic bass sound, a combination of funk, groove, soul and jazz, can be heard on countless classics from Bill Wither’s "Just The Two Of Us", to Luther Vandross’ "Never Too Much"; Aretha Franklin’s "Jump To It" and Donald Fagan’s "The Nightfly." Miller’s 20-year writing and producing-partnership with Luther Vandross resulted in 13 consecutive platinum-selling albums of which Miller collaborated on 11. Miller was also the architect of numerous David Sanborn hits throughout the 80s and 90s and his work with renowned artists such as Grover Washington Jr, Dave Grusin, Bob James and Joe Sample helped shape the sound of contemporary jazz throughout the 80s and 90s, creating an entire sub-genre of funky jazz and earning Miller the title of one of the most influential bassists of this generation. He is also the composer and mastermind behind the mega-hit “Da Butt” from Spike Lee’s classic film School Daze,

Most notable in Miller’s vast career is his pivotal influence on Miles Davis’ career, composing, producing and arranging three ground-breaking albums which helped define the sound of Davis’ final era - including the well-known recording Tutu. The album and title song which Miller wrote in honor of South African activist Desmond Tutu, won two Grammy‘s and is often described as one of Davis’ most significant contributions to the canon of contemporary jazz.

As an artist, Miller maintains a successful solo career with over 13 critically acclaimed album releases. His two most recent solo projects, Afrodeezia (2015) and Laid Black (2018) joined the ranks of Miller’s string of Grammy-nominated releases, each achieving the #1 spot on the Billboard Jazz charts.

Marcus is a UNESCO Artist For Peace and spokesperson for the The Slave Routes Project. He also hosts the weekly radio show MillerTime on Real Jazz @ SiriusXM 67.

Jazzmeia Horn

Mon, Dec 6 - Tue, Dec 7

“Horn is among the most exciting young vocalists in jazz, with a proud traditionalism that keeps her tightly linked to the sound of classic figures like Nancy Wilson and Betty Carter, but a vivacity of spirit and conviction that places her firmly in the present.” - The New York Times

Mike Stern Jeff Lorber Fusion featuring Jimmy Haslip & Gary Novak

Wed, Dec 8 - Thu, Dec 9

"This album, Eleven, shows why fusing styles is always worth a go. On it, Lorber teamed up with ex-Miles Davis Band member and all round six-string whizz Mike Stern, who sits in the small part of the jazz venn diagram where bebop, blues and rock overlap. His more complex melody making complements Lorber's playing well."
