It’s accomplishments include selections as a two-time Finalist in the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival, a three-time Finalist in the “Next Generation Jazz Festival” in Monterey, CA, a Finalist in the Swing Central Jazz Festival in Savannah, GA, multiple invitations to perform in Starbucks’ “Hot Java Cool Jazz” concert at the Paramount, a performance at the prestigious Earshot Jazz Festival, and first place finishes at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, Viking Jazz Festival, and Bellevue HS Jazz Festival. The band was also named one of the “Outstanding Jazz Ensembles” at the UW Jazz Festival in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The music program at Ballard prides itself on the high expectations and quality of music throughout the entire department and its Concert Bands, Marching Band, Orchestras, Choirs and Chamber Ensembles have all been recognized throughout the state, region, and nation for their musical excellence. This year, the Ballard Marching Band won 1st Place at the Autumn Leaf Festival Parade in Leavenworth.

In addition to the two Jazz Bands and Vocal Jazz, Ballard High School offers three concert choirs, three concert bands, three orchestras, percussion ensemble, fiddle ensemble, and a successful drama and musical theatre program.
