The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley welcomes the return of 10x Grammy Award winning vocal group Hall of Famers The Manhattan Transfer on the heels of their new release "The Junction".

The sizzling, sassy jazz vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer, featuring Mount Vernon, WA. native Cheryl Bentyne, started as a folk group inspired by vintage swing, exemplified by the wonderful, tongue-in-cheek early hits “Operator” and “Java Jive.” Glitz, bebop and doo-wop soon followed, and The Manhattan Transfer moved beyond the hippie crowd to international stardom. Ten Grammy awards down the line, the quartet’s most recent recording released (3/2018) is “The Junction.”

Vocal Group Hall of Famers, they remain a jazz and pop cornerstone band. The first group to win Grammy Awards in both Pop and Jazz categories in the same year, they went on to receive an additional 12 Grammy nominations for their album Vocalese in 1985, which made it second only to Michael Jackson’s Thriller as most nominated album in one year, and cemented the group’s status as an essential and innovative vocal group in popular music history.

One of the co-writers on The Junction – the group’s new album which draws inspiration in part from The Transfer’s classic 1975 version of Glenn Miller’s “Tuxedo Junction” — is the group’s new member, bass vocalist Trist Curless. Curless began subbing on the road for the late band founder Tim Hauser in 2013, officially joining after Hauser’s passing in late 2014.
