artist info

Alternative Soul artist, Whitney Mongé has been at it for 10 years in the Seattle music scene. Moving from her hometown Spokane, WA in 2007, Whitney learned to capture the power of authenticity while honing her skills as a street performer in Pike Place Market. With or without elevation of a stage, each part of her performance, from the passion of her powerful, smokey voice to the intensity of a whispered lyric, draws listeners into an embrace within each truthful moment of song. She was raised with rhythm and blues in her blood, but while growing up in the Pacific Northwest, her music was heavily influenced by the rock scene of the 90's coining her own genre, Alternative Soul.

Whitney was featured in the award winning Find Your Way: a Busker’s Documentary (2014) starring Chris Bellew of The Presidents Of The United States Of America and world renowned violinist, Joshua Bell. The film’s release was the beginning of Mongé moving her career off the streets and on to the stage. From opening up for acts Ziggy Marley, KT Tunstall, and Mayer Hawthorne, to performing in packed venues at The Triple Door, Showbox Market and The Crocodile; Whitney has made a local name for herself and soon a national one.

Her three albums Heartbeat (2011), Steadfast (2014) and Stone (2017) lay bare the wonderment of a gifted artist’s search for their place, their voice and for a sense of belonging. In Fall 2018, Whitney will release her 4th album, Carry On and in this six song EP we gain more insight about who this up-and-coming artist really is. Songs “Day N Nite” and “Born Without Wings” articulate her struggle as a musician in Seattle, while hitting personal notes about Whitney’s life in the track “The Family”, and paying tribute to the late Chris Cornell in album title track “Carry On”. Each melody exemplifies the clarity within her songwriting psyche, and allows the listener to virtually see the vision inside her artistry. The online release of Carry On will be available November 27th, 2018 and a double header release party at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley November 27th & 28th with Naomi Wachira.

Lauded in 2013 as Best Folk Singer in Seattle, Naomi Wachira is an artist of formidable talent and heart. Seattle Music Insider raves her performances as "marked by her strong stage presence, storytelling and enduring smile." Wachira's voice is a melding of rich sources from her childhood in Kenya, her Northwest home, and such American inspirations as Tracy Chapman and South African activist Miriam Makeba. Her music & songwriting brings together harmonies that speak across continents and cultures.
