artist info

The Jackson High School Jazz Ensembles are recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest for their outstanding performances in the community and around the region. With four full jazz bands, over 80 students participate in the instrumental jazz program at Jackson – at 6:30am every morning. The Jackson jazz bands are very active in their school and community, performing for concerts, festivals, competitions, and special events. Adjudicator comments from jazz festivals consistently reflect high-quality performances by the ensembles. In the 2016 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho, Jazz 1, 2 and 3 received top honors. They have been a part of KPLU, now KNKX School of Jazz CD from 2010 through 2013. In 2013, Jazz I received first place in the Heritage Music Festival in Vancouver, BC.

From community events in Mill Creek to New York’s Carnegie Hall and many locations in between, students in the Jackson High School music department can be heard performing in school groups, community bands and orchestras, jazz combos, and many other musical groups. The Jackson High School Band Boosters host the annual Mill Creek Jazz Festival occurring each November. It is a non-competitive festival that draws jazz bands from all over the Puget Sound region and nationally known clinicians.

Jazz is alive and well at Jackson High School in Mill Creek!
