The Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensembles are recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest and they are hailed as “one of the top five high school jazz bands” by Starbucks, at their annual Hot Java Cool Jazz Concert held at the Paramount Theater this year.

MTHS Jazz Ensemble 1 is a seven time Finalist in the Essentially Ellington Competition held in New York City including this year. They have also participated in the Clark College Jazz Festival this year and other regional festivals over the past years. Students in both Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 have taken top honors at regional and national competitions over the years, and have been featured in All-State and All-Northwest music groups, as well as National Ensembles like the Grammy Bands.

MTHS Jazz Ensemble 2 won their division last year at the Newport Jazz Festival in Bellevue and looks forward to performing at Jazz Alley.

MTHS continues to serve their community by playing throughout the year with performances at local events, businesses, private parties and benefits. They are recognized as the go to performing groups for area functions.

Directing the ensembles is Mr. Darin Faul, who has been teaching and directing these fabulous bands for the past 18 years.

Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton

Thu, Jun 1 - Sun, Jun 4

"Lisa Fischer in concert is addictive. Every performance is so enriching, so exciting, so transcendent that you want more. With remarkable vocal range and vocabulary, Fischer can sing soul, jazz, rock, gospel, pop, folk and classical with equal facility and authority. She often mixes styles in the same song, sometimes in the same vocal line. Her approach tends to be intimate, artful and almost meditative, accompanied by her interpretive dancing, but she also can cut loose and funk with fierceness and rock with abandon." -Minneapolis Star Tribune
