The name Geila comes from the Israeli song “Hava Nagila,” meaning joy. She was born in Kobe, Japan to a Japanese mother and Israeli father and discovered her joy for music at the age of nine after undergoing spinal surgery for scoliosis. While looking for ways to interact with people through music, she learned to play the alto sax and discovered Jazz. She knew singing was her destiny while attending the Berklee College of Music as she realized she could express more through her voice. Jazz is her root to all music. She has three albums with her Voissalot Choir and had the privilege of performing with this group at the Apollo in New York City in 2009. Her first solo album will be released this October in Japan.
